If you are considering expanding your business to reach overseas customers, here’s our top five tips to help you make it a success.

1. Understand Import and Export Regulations

Every country has its own set of regulations that cover imports and exports. These may include tariffs, trade agreements, import licenses, and product-specific regulations. To make sure that your shipping meets these standards, it is essential to research the rules of the country or countries that you are sending goods to. By doing so, you will avoid delays at customs, as well as potential fines.

2. Use Reliable Partners

Successful international trade relies on strong relationships with reliable partners. This includes suppliers, distributors, freight forwarders, and customs brokers. Choose partners with a proven track record and a deep understanding of your target markets. Regular communication and clear agreements can help ensure smooth operations, minimising the risk of disruptions in your supply chain.

3. Optimise Your Supply Chain Management

Effective supply chain management is critical for keeping costs low and improving efficiency. This involves strategic planning, inventory management, and making use of technology for real-time tracking. By using advanced supply chain solutions, it can help streamline operations and make sure your business stays responsive within its market. It is also important to regularly review your supply chain management so you can adapt to change if needed.

4. Get Comprehensive Insurance

International trade involves various risks, including transit damage, theft, and political instability. By getting comprehensive insurance coverage, you can take steps to protect your goods and prevent potential losses. Evaluate different insurance options to find a policy that covers all aspects of your trade activities, from transportation to storage. Having the right insurance not only provides financial protection but also peace of mind, allowing you to focus on growing your business.

5. Use Technology to Stay Efficient

Technology plays a key role in modern international trade. From automated customs documentation to real-time shipment tracking, the right technologies can significantly enhance efficiency and accuracy. Invest in digital tools that integrate with your existing systems and provide valuable insights into your operations. This can help you make the right decision for your business, such as optimising routes and improving customer satisfaction.

FORTOAK STRENGTHENS OPERATIONS THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH LTS GLOBAL SOLUTIONS https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/blog/fortoak-strengthens-operations-through-strategic-partnership-with-lts-global-solutions/ Mon, 24 Feb 2025 10:25:34 +0000 https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/?p=9452 Fortoak, the UK’s leading supplier of till rolls, labels and packaging has reaped the rewards from its partnership with LTS Global Solutions, a Birmingham-based supply chain solutions specialist.

Over the past year, the wholesaler has gone from strength to strength, which has been underpinned by both organic growth and the recent acquisition of Pad Printers, a prominent name in the manufacture and supply of restaurant pads and paper products across the UK and Ireland.

With Fortoak importing between 18 and 20 containers per month from the Far East, the business turned to LTS Global Solutions for an end-to-end logistics solution that would enhance operational efficiency and streamline its processes.

Fast forward to the present day and LTS provides seamless inbound logistics solutions on its behalf, managing the landing of all containers, as well as clearing and transporting pallets to Fortoak’s racking space located at LTS’ facility at Coleshill, Birmingham, where it occupies 8,600 sq. ft. of warehousing space and a designated pick and pack area of 1,169 pallet spaces.

The company’s outbound logistics operation is similarly managed through a combination of LTS’ pallet network, TPN, as well as two dedicated LTS trucks which are liveried with Fortoak branding, along with several other external final-mile partnerships.

LTS’ expertise has enabled Fortoak to deliver a market leading 99.2 percent on-time, in-full delivery rate to its diverse base of over 1,000 active customers across various verticals including retail, hospitality, petrol forecourt, and merchant services operations who are supported both directly and through a network of distribution partners.

Such is the depth of their partnership, that since moving into LTS’ facility in 2022 Fortoak has also benefited from having three office spaces on-site which houses 12 staff.

The site’s scalability and versatile infrastructure were key factors for Fortoak, offering the wholesaler a unique opportunity to collaborate more efficiently with LTS. Equally, the flexibility of the facility provides the support needed for future growth, allowing the business to expand with minimal friction.

With the facility being carbon neutral in construction, it aligned with Fortoak’s sustainability commitments.

Looking ahead, Fortoak Managing Director Simon McCouaig believes that with further growth on the horizon, its relationship with LTS places the company in a strong positioned to achieve on its ambitious goals over the coming years.

Simon McCouaig commented: “Over the past year, our growth has really shown just how important it is to have a reliable logistics partner – something we have luckily found in LTS. Their ability to scale with us has been pivotal in keeping us on track and ensuring we deliver exactly what our customers need, without stumbling at the first hurdle which is easily done.

Alex Vergopoulos, Fortoak’s Chairman, also added “LTS manages the logistics and storage side of our business, and we manage the orders, take care of the pick and pack operation as well as the final-mile distribution. It’s a true partnership. Being able to work out of LTS’ impressive site is also hugely beneficial as it enables us to have a greater overview of our entire operation.

“From our shared commitment to sustainability to the way we operate, the synergy between our two companies is what makes our relationship run like clockwork. In many ways they have become a vital cog in our operation, and we are confident that they will continue to play a significant role in our expansion plans as we look to develop our operation organically and through further acquisition.”

Dave Hands, Managing Director of LTS Global Solutions also said: “Flexibility is at the core of everything we do at LTS, and is a significant enabler in ensuring our clients and partners have complete confidence in our ability to provide the right tailored support they need to grow alongside us.

“Our relationship with Fortoak could perhaps be considered as slightly unconventional as they not only have space in our building, we are also their logistics partners as well as their customer as we purchase both labelling and packaging products from them.

“We literally work hand in hand and it is a relationship which is paying dividends for both organisations.

“We are delighted to be a part of Fortoak’s continuing success story and look forward to continuing to support them on their growth journey.”

A Trusted Partner for End-to-End Supply Chain Success https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/blog/a-trusted-partner-for-end-to-end-supply-chain-success/ Fri, 18 Oct 2024 09:14:51 +0000 https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/?p=9290 End to End (E2E) supply chains involve the journey of a product, right from the sourcing of raw materials through to delivery of the finished product to the customer. This complete solution is vastly different from traditional supply chains, which involves a separate coordination of the steps. For businesses, there are several benefits of using E2E. Let’s take a closer look at why E2E might be the best option for your business, and why you should partner with LTS.

The Benefits of End-to-End Supply Chains

As the management of E2E supply chains can be complex, businesses typically use the services of a provider who handle all parts of the process, such as collections and transport, warehouse storage, order fulfilment, delivery and more. By using E2E supply chains, you gain the following benefits:

  • Things move easily through each part of the supply chain.
  • Problems get spotted quickly, so delays can be avoided.
  • Stronger relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Being able to see everything helps reduce risks, and it helps plan for market changes.
  • Reduced costs of labour and materials.
  • Greater control gives you more flexibility, so you can adapt to problem or changes when needed.

Having an efficient end-to-end supply chain improves visibility. This means businesses can see each part of the process and fix problems should they arise. Overall, this leads to smoother operations and better customer service.

What are the Challenges of End-to-End Supply Chains?

While an end-to-end supply chain has many benefits, it can also be complex to manage. Some challenges include:

  • Keeping Track of Multiple Partners: With many companies involved in different parts of the chain, keeping track of partners may feel like there’s a lot of plates to keep spinning. Whether it’s transport companies, suppliers or warehousing, staying on top of who does what, and when, is essential.
  • Technology: To keep everything running smoothly, companies need the right technology to track products, monitor inventory, and communicate with partners. Investing in these systems can be expensive but necessary.
  • Market Changes: Businesses need to stay on top of trends and adjust their supply chain strategy when needed, which can be challenging without a flexible system in place.

Logistics Excellence: LTS Global Solutions’ Top 5 Tips for Supply Chain Mastery https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/blog/logistics-excellence-lts-global-solutions-top-5-tips-for-supply-chain-mastery/ Thu, 05 Sep 2024 10:40:01 +0000 https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/?p=9220 Every business that wants to succeed must have an efficient supply chain, as a healthy supply chain reduces costs, increases customer satisfaction, and improves overall business success. Here are our top five suggestions to help you become an expert in supply chain management.

1. Make Use of Technology

One of your most important tools in logistics is technology, which helps you increase operational efficiency by giving you access to real-time supply chain information. This may include Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to help you manage inventory, track shipments, and optimise storage space.

Other types of technology that are essential are Transport Management Systems (TMS), as they enable you to plan the movement of goods, ensuring timely deliveries and cost savings.

2. Build Strong Relationships in your Supply Chain

A successful supply chain depends on having positive connections with manufacturers, suppliers, and customers. Make sure you stay in contact with your partners on a frequent basis to make sure everything running smoothly and to resolve any problems that may arise.

3. Inventory Management

Keeping the right amount of inventory is crucial because having too much stock ties up your money, while too little can lead to delays and unhappy customers. To manage your inventory effectively you should conduct regular audits to make sure the amount of inventory you have matches with your records.

Markets can be unpredictable, so using forecasting is helpful in understanding the future demand for your products. To do this, use historical data and market trends to predict what your customers will be looking for and adjust your inventory levels accordingly.

If you don’t have the capacity to store large quantities of inventory, explore the strategy of Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory management. This is where you keep a minimal amount of goods, and receive them only as they are needed, reducing storage costs.

4. Optimise Your Logistics Network

Having an efficient logistics network means faster deliveries and lower costs, so make sure that the warehouses you use are close to your major markets to reduce shipping times. When it comes to the finding the best routes, software can help to find the most efficient routes for your deliveries, saving time and fuel.

Another way to find the right balance between costs and delivery times is by using multi-modal transport, which is a combination of transportation methods such as trucks, trains, planes and ships.

5. Monitor Performance

You can identify opportunities for improvement in your supply chain performance by closely monitoring it, using key performance indicators (KPIs) to gauge progress. For example, you can track how long it takes for goods to reach customers, measure how often orders are delivered correctly and on time. By reviewing these KPIs regularly, you can make informed decisions and make changes where necessary.

Supply chain management is a never-ending process that demands close attention to detail, and we know that it can be a challenge! At LTS, we’re here to assist you with every aspect of your supply chain, so that your company functions like a well-oiled machine. The Latest Trends in Logistics and Shipping https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/blog/the-latest-trends-in-logistics-and-shipping/ Mon, 29 Jan 2024 10:29:50 +0000 https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/?p=8905 For businesses operating in the logistics and shipping industry, staying ahead of the curve is essential for success. With advancements in technology, shifting consumer expectations, and global economic changes, this exciting industry is constantly evolving. At LTS, we understand the importance of staying informed about the latest trends shaping our field. So, let’s explore some of the key trends currently driving innovation in logistics and shipping.

Digital Transformation

Digital systems have been important in logistics and shipping for some time, yet the technology continues to evolve. From advanced route planning software to real-time tracking systems, digital solutions are transforming the way goods are managed. Embracing digital systems not only enhances a business’s reputation through providing transparency, but it also streamlines operations and improves efficiency.

E-commerce Boom

Today, more people shop online than ever before, and this continues to shape the logistics and shipping industry. For example, the demand for fast and reliable delivery services has increased the need for strategically located fulfilment centres. For logistics companies, adapting to the demands of e-commerce means investing in solutions to meet customer expectations, such as optimising last-mile delivery.

Sustainable Practices

There has always been discussion around the effects of logistics and shipping on the environment. With environment and climate change at centre stage, sustainability is no longer just a buzzword. From reducing carbon emissions to minimising packaging waste, adopting eco-friendly practices across the supply chain is critical. This includes investing in fuel-efficient vehicles, exploring alternative fuels, and implementing recycling programs. By embracing sustainability, logistics companies not only contribute to a greener planet but also enhance their brand reputation and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

Automation and Robotics

Automation is a key development that is reshaping the logistics landscape, from warehouse operations to delivery processes. Robotics technologies such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and drones are increasingly being used to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and reduce labour costs. Automated warehouses equipped with robotic picking systems can significantly increase order fulfilment speed and accuracy, while increasing customer satisfaction in the process.

Supply Chain Resilience

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the vulnerabilities in global supply chains, highlighting the importance of adaptability. In response, logistics companies are investing in contingency plans to mitigate future disruptions. This includes using data analytics to foresee fluctuations in demand, building flexible logistics networks, and establishing robust communication channels with suppliers and partners.

Blockchain Technology

Blockchain is a digital, public leger that is used across a network, and it holds promise for enhancing transparency and security in logistics and shipping. By providing a decentralised and immutable ledger, blockchain enables better traceability of goods throughout the supply chain. This can help prevent fraud, reduce paperwork, and streamline customs clearance processes. While still in its early stages of adoption, blockchain has the potential to revolutionise how logistics companies track and manage shipments.

The logistics and shipping industry is undergoing a period of rapid transformation, driven by technological advancements, changing consumer behaviours, and global challenges. As a leading UK logistics company, we recognise the importance of embracing these trends to deliver innovative solutions and exceed customer expectations. The Power of Efficient Supply Chain Management https://www.ltsglobalsolutions.com/blog/the-power-of-efficient-supply-chain-management/ Wed, 12 Jul 2023 10:25:52 +0000 https://ltsglobalsolutions.com/?p=8537 Efficient supply chain management is critical for businesses of all kinds. It can impact everything from customer satisfaction to overall profitability. With effective and timely delivery of goods and services to your customers, effective supply chain management can empower your business to reach its full potential. So, what does efficient supply chain management mean, and how can it help your business? Let’s take a closer look.

What does Supply Chain Management Involve?

Efficient supply chain management involves the coordination and integration of all activities involved in sourcing, procurement, conversion, and logistics management. This includes everything from sourcing raw materials to delivering finished goods to the end customer.

By streamlining these activities, businesses can reduce costs, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and improve overall efficiency. With an efficient supply chain, businesses can minimise delays, reduce waste, and improve delivery times, which ultimately translates to higher customer satisfaction.

What are the Benefits of Efficient Supply Chains?

Businesses that prioritise efficient supply chain management gain a competitive advantage. They can respond more quickly to changes in market demand, adapt to new trends and technologies, and optimise their production processes to meet customer demand in a more profitable way.

Here are some specific benefits of efficient supply chains:

  • Cost savings: Efficient supply chain management can help businesses reduce costs associated with inventory, transportation, and storage. By streamlining their processes, they can eliminate waste and improve productivity.
  • Improved customer satisfaction: An efficient supply chain helps businesses deliver products to customers faster and more reliably. This leads to higher levels of customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Increased agility: Businesses with efficient supply chains can quickly adapt to changes in demand or market conditions. They can adjust production schedules, change suppliers, or modify distribution channels as needed.
  • Better risk management: An efficient supply chain reduces the risk of disruptions due to unforeseen events such as natural disasters or supplier bankruptcies. Businesses can have contingency plans in place to mitigate these risks.

An efficient supply chain is essential for businesses that want to remain competitive in today’s fast-paced global marketplace. It enables them to be more responsive to customer needs, reduce costs, and manage risks effectively.
