Transport Planner
Job Scope:
As a customer-focused and well-organised member of our transport and compliance teams, the Transport Planner plays a pivotal role in the success of our daily operations. You will be responsible for creating cost-effective and efficient route plans using our in-house systems, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies. This role demands strong communication with drivers, customers, suppliers, and internal departments to deliver a best-in-class transport service.
General Responsibilities:
- Maintain a ‘right first-time’ approach in your work and strive for excellence.
- Demonstrate a methodical and coordinated approach while working under pressure.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of all transport related information (i.e. quotes, bookings and manifests etc.) on the transport management system.
- Work closely with other transport planners to utilise vehicles and back load opportunities.
- Cost-effective and efficient route planning, in accordance with driver and fleet availability and within strict compliance constraints.
- Ensure that drivers are issued with the correct documentation and fully informed on both the customers’ requirements and our expectations.
- Ensure drivers are working to the handbook and delivering operations in line with business expectations.
- Full and thorough driver briefing and de-briefing, both remotely and at base – Carry out daily welfare checks on all remote drivers under your remit; check in/out all company issued devices and equipment; communicate shift start times and manifest details; check documentation accuracy and address any errors; challenge timesheet and expense anomalies.
- Monitor and manage fuel drawings, toll charges and overnight parking costs and address any concerns.
- Communicate all issues and concerns with both internal and external customers and the Transport Planning teams in a timely manner and maintain an open and transparent dialogue with all parties.
- Monitor driver performance, delays and demurrage and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and increase profitability.
- Analyse all relevant areas of responsibility, set KPI’s and manage improvement objectives.
- Maintain all relevant aspects of a safe, legal and compliant transport operation in accordance with the Fleet Compliance team.
- Ensure that all relevant statutory laws, EU Drivers Hours Rules & Regulations, Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations, Operators Licence and OCRS obligations, FORS requirements, and all Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Maintain a cohesive and efficient working relationship with all suppliers and staff and liaise effectively with the Fleet Compliance team to ensure that all legal compliance requirements are correctly communicated and organised efficiently.
- Uphold the company Health & Safety system and ensure that all processes are adhered to.
- Maintain all relevant aspects of a safe, legal and compliant transport operation.
- To ensure the customer receives a first class and professional service in all communication.
- To demonstrate a keen eye whilst working under pressure.
- Accurate preparation of jobs for invoicing
- Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring you comply with statutory law, company policy & health & safety guidelines
- Creating and promoting best practices for drivers and leading from the front to provide a positive and proactive culture in all areas of responsibility.
- Involvement in projects as required for continual improvement to help the business achieve our standards and where possible exceed them to provide first-class services to our clients.
- Overall objectives will be further developed in line with the company’s strategic objectives
Experience Skills:
- Experience of Traffic Management
- General haulage and groupage experience
- National CPC (advantageous)
- Some pallet network planning experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Working hours and Package:
45 hours per week with 30 minute lunch break, working predominantly Monday to Friday. Our transport office operates from 06:00 to 20:00hrs and you maybe be required to work between those times. However, this role is predominantly 10am – 19:00hrs, and some flexibility will be needed due to the nature of the role.

HGV Class 2 Floating Driver
Location: Hams Hall (Birmingham)
Reporting to: Transport Manager
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10 hours per day (some flexibility required)
Holiday: 25 days + bank holidays (33 days total)
Job Scope:
We’re looking for a proactive and flexible Class 2 Floating Driver to join our transport team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys variety in their day-to-day work and is keen to support across different routes and vehicle types.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive a range of Class 2 and under vehicles to cover holidays, sickness, and operational needs.
- Deliver goods safely and efficiently, ensuring excellent customer service at every stop.
- Conduct pre-departure vehicle checks and report any defects.
- Secure loads properly and assist with unloading where required.
- Maintain accurate delivery records and communicate effectively with traffic planners.
- Adhere to all transport regulations, company policies, and health & safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing driver assessments, CPC training, and e-learning.
What We’re Looking For:
- Valid Class 2 licence and willingness to drive various vehicle types.
- Flexibility to do nights out when required.
